Lots of joy was spread around at the Capper Recreation Center recently in Southeast.
Each year since 2003, the District of Columbia Housing Authority has helped thousands of children enjoy the holidays. The Gift of Love initiative offers DCHA employees, community partners, government agencies, and others the opportunity to provide toys, books, and other gifts to brighten the holiday season for children. This year DCHA partnered with A Wider Circle, Operation Warm, and the Children’s Foundation to make this holiday season the best one yet for DCHA families.
The signature event featured parents and children picking out gifts and books to put under the tree. Santa and Mrs. Claus were on hand to get last-minute requests from the children and photos for the parents. Children, from infants to 12 years old, received toys or a coat.
Combined with the efforts from other federal and local organizations, such as the U.S. Coast Guard and Deloitte, DCHA was able to serve more than 5,000 children throughout the community at this and other local events.
