Season of Giving Fundraising Continues

The District of Columbia Housing Authority’s annual Season of Giving fundraising has passed the halfway point of its $50,000 goal with more than $36,000 in donations.

Each year DCHA supports its customers—including veterans, seniors, and young people by raising funds during our Season of Giving. The annual Veterans Appreciation Event,  Thanksgiving Meals for seniors, and Gift of Love, where toys and coats are distributed to DCHA youth, are all made possible thanks to the Season of Giving fundraising efforts.

DCHA Executive Director Tyrone Garrett led a successful 31-Day Wellness Challenge, where he ran a 5K race every day during October. Garrett encouraged others to join him virtually while helping to kick-off fundraising for the Season of Giving.

Garrett decided on the daily challenge to make sure the Season of Giving still received funds after the third annual 5K race was cancelled due to the pandemic. In addition to challenging himself and raising funds, Garrett said that he was running for all of the people who have been affected by the pandemic and cannot run or walk this year on their own. Each day he posted his running lengths and times and offered inspiration to DCHA employees and to those running with him virtually on the Season of Giving 5K Facebook Group.

In addition our partner, C&A Electric, generously kicked off our large donor program to support holiday festivities for our customers.

DCHA’s Gift of Love event aims to spread holiday cheer while providing coats and toys to DCHA youth. This year’s event will span three days, December 19, 21, and 22 and will be held outside on the front lawn of DCHA Headquarters at 1133 North Capitol Street, N.E.
