DCHA RESIDENT COUNCIL ELECTIONS ARE SCHEDULED FOR SEPTEMBER 9 & 10, 2021

SPECIAL NOTICE: COVID-19 AND THE COUNCIL ELECTIONS

The 2020 District of Columbia Housing Authority resident council elections were delayed due to COVID-19. While it has always been important to ensure elections are fair, transparent, and accessible, DCHA and Resident Participation Services PLLC have been working to include safety precautions as an important criteria in the election process. Now that vaccines are widely available and the D.C. government has lifted capacity limits and restrictions, the Resident Council Elections have now been rescheduled to take place on September 9 and 10.

DO YOU WANT TO RUN FOR OFFICE?
Do you want to represent your community and improve the quality of life for residents living in public housing?

You may be eligible to run for a position on your resident council! Download the candidate application here for more info. Candidate applications are due by August 6 at 5 p.m. The Candidate Training is at 6 p.m. on August 10 at Sibley Plaza.

DO YOU WANT TO GET PAID TO WORK THE POLLS?
We are looking to hire and train residents! Download the polling site monitor application here for more info. The Polling Site Monitor training is at 6 p.m. on September 2 at Sibley Plaza.

INFORMATIONAL MEETINGS

The week of July 12-16, informational meetings were held at each property to provide candidate applications, polling site monitor applications and answer questions about the elections.

CANDIDATE TRAINING

On July 29, 2021, the D.C. Office of the Mayor ordered that face masks are required for indoor events regardless of your vaccination status. While masks are required at all election events, some candidates may feel uncomfortable attending in-person meetings. To ensure all candidates receive training, this event will be available over the phone in addition to the already scheduled in-person training at Sibley Plaza at 6 p.m. on August 10. To participate in the training via phone, candidates must call 267-930-4000 on August 10 at 6 p.m., then enter the code 856-019-582.  Candidates only need to attend one and may choose which to attend.

CANDIDATE FORUM

Candidate forums will take place at properties where more than one candidate is running for the same office so that the candidates may discuss their views and answer questions from the residents at their property.  Candidate forums will be scheduled for the week beginning August 30, 2021.

SPECIAL ACCOMMODATIONS FOR VOTING

Any resident who is eligible to vote but needs translation, ASL assistance, or is unable to get to the polling site on their Election Day due to any documented health/disability reason will be given a special accommodation upon advance request to the ITPM.  If you or any other residents you know need special accommodations, please inform the ITPM no later than September 7, 2021.  ITPM staff will visit residents who have properly requested for special accommodations before the polls open on Election Day and allow them to vote in their presence.

VOTING REQUIREMENTS

In order to be eligible to vote residents must have a valid ID, be at least 18 years old, and on the lease.

ELECTION DATES AND LOCATIONS

Elections will be taking place at polling sites over two days between the hours of 1 p.m. and 7 p.m. Residents must vote only at the polling site where they live.
