Nearly 200 seniors who receive support from The District of Columbia Housing Authority enjoyed an early Thanksgiving dinner today at The Catholic University of America.
The event, in its seventh year, allows DCHA to honor its older customers with a meal and entertainment while also providing them with educational and helpful services.
“It is DCHA’s mission to serve you, your families, and other residents of DCHA,” said DCHA Executive Director Tyrone Garrett to the crowd. “We appreciate all that you do for us. You give us a reason to serve.”
The seniors from eight senior DCHA properties in addition to voucher customers heard from members of the authority’s staff from the Housing Choice Voucher Program and Office of Resident Services about programs that may be beneficial to them. They also were visited by staff from the Legal Counsel for the Elderly and the Federal Communications Commission.
While enjoying their meals, motivational speaker Cheryll Neil Humphreys shared her thoughts on what the season of giving is all about.
There was music, dancing, and bingo to make for a complete event.
